OUTSMART THE REST

- GARRY OWEN

OUTSMART (4.10) looks sharp in the Westwood Handicap on another tricky card at Beverley.

Ollie Pears’ gelding handled this venue well when just denied by Haunted Dream over track and trip last month.

The grey is nicely unexposed over 1m 2f so ought to go one better in a decent contest.

SON AND SANNIE (3.10) should clean up for thriving Archie Watson in the sprint handicap. The gelding opened his account for his yard when cosily defeating The Defiant at Windsor last week.

The six-year-old looks fairly treated on turf so can follow up under in-form Benoit de la Sayette.

HARDY (3.40) stands to go the distance for shrewd Jessica Macey in the Mental Health Awareness Week Handicap.

The four-year-old recorded a personal best when chinned by Esticky End over seven furlongs here last week. The gelding was staying on strongly late so can prosper up in trip.

RHUBARB (3.20) looks tasty for Richard Price in the vickers bet Handicap at Chepstow.

The mare still lurks on an inviting mark after slamming Symbol of Hope in a stronger event here last month.

Jonathan Portman is hitting form so it’s worth backing RUSSIAN RUMOUR (3.50) in the two-miler. The hurdler can build on her creditable second to Thibault on her return to the flat here last month.

MURAU (5.30) rates a typical James Fanshawe improver on the all-weather at Newcastle.

The gelding relished 1m 4f when routing Grimsby Town over course and distance.

The four-year-old scored with plenty in hand two months ago so ought to shrug off a wellearned 7lh hike up in class.

CUSACK (6.0) looks above par for David Thompson in the

Parkland Golf Handicap. A good winner here in March, the gelding didn’t stay 1m 4f when third to Lawmans Blis at Thirsk last month.

That was still a solid effort so he should resume winning ways back over 10 furlongs.

DRAGONS WILL RISE (6.30) stands to extend Micky Hammond’s red-hot run in the feature event. The six-year-old defeated Pallas Dancer in a similar race in March and can make light of a lenient 3lb hike.
