McGhee insists basement battlers will go out with bang

-

MARK McGHEE knows it’s all about Dundee’s doom but he wants his side to go out of the Premiership with a boom.

The Dark Blues are on the verge of an immediate return to the Championship. They sit six points behind St Johnstone, with just six left to play for, and have an inferior goal difference.

But Dee gaffer McGhee wants his side to forget about the bigger picture and to go out and beat Hibs at home to give their long-suffering fans something to finally celebrate.

He said: “We look doomed now because I can’t see St Johnstone losing both games and I can’t imagine we’re going to win both.

“It’s looking a bit hopeless but we have to convince ourselves that’s not the case.

“We have to look short-term and just focus on this game and try to win it.

“We have to make sure we turn up and the supporters who are at the game see a team who are trying.

“I would rather go down by one goal than nine points difference, so if it’s going to happen we have to make sure it’s by the skin of our teeth.

“That’s the least we owe the fans and until last weekend I was convinced that’s what we were doing. We were fighting for every point and were in every game lately, so we’re deserving of some credit.”

McGhee wants to remain at

Dundee next season whatever happens and vice-captain Jordan McGhee has called for clarity from the board.

He said: “That’s up to John and the board to decide, but the earlier they do it, the better it is for players.

“It’ll be an uphill task for us to stay up but strange things have happened in football.”
