I’ll always have Hibee memories of time here

James vows to learn from poor season

- BY CRAIG SWAN

JAMES SCOTT’S suffered a harrowing loan at Hibs. The young striker has struggled for form. He was told by Jack Ross he needed to get fitter. He’s taken heavy stick from his own fans. It’s been a brutal learning curve. However, despite the disappointments and frustrations, Scott has loved the experience. The 21-year-old says he’s going back to Hull City to try to earn his place for next season as a stronger and more mature character. Such are his feelings, that if the chance ever came up to return to Easter Road he wouldn’t hesitate to take it. Asked if he’d recount the arduous short-term deal fondly, he said: “Definitely. In my career, everything has mostly gone well but this season has been a massive outlook. Every player will look at it a different way and I’ll definitely reflect on this in the future.

“I would rather have it just now at such a young age and get it out of the way and learn massively from it.

“Being more mature, if I get left out, instead of going and arguing with the gaffer or doing all the petty stuff, I just have to work so much harder. That’s something I’ll take on.

“I’d say I started the season decently and faded away. I came in and wasn’t providing any goals and felt I had no luck with that. It’s not as if I wasn’t trying but Kevin Nisbet is brilliant, came back in and did what he does.

“I’d like to have done better but I have so many good memories and I’d definitely come back.

“Obviously, I’m trying to finish the season really well and then focus on Hull. I could go back to Hull and play. I’ll have a word with the new manager and owner and, if they want me to stay, I will. But if not, I’ll just move on and keep working.”

Ross stated earlier in the season that Scott, who had just returned from a serious ankle injury, needed to improve his fitness.

It was a bolt from the blue and the striker said: “I didn’t really know. I just picked up the paper and it isn’t nice as a young player but I respected the decision he made.

“I didn’t want to come and have a go. I just wanted to prove him wrong and he started playing me again.

“That’s all I could have done. I used it positively. My family, agent and some of the players were saying don’t take it to heart.

“But you need to or you do not come out better. I could have sunk away but I’ve pushed to get a goal and an assist towards the end of the season and I think I’ve been playing well the last few games.”

Fans dished out stick during poor periods but Scott added: “That’s hard and it happens when the results aren’t going well.

“I don’t blame the fans because we’re in this situation as it’s not been good enough. It was truly deserved. I have finished the season the way I should’ve been the full season.”
