DARCY FITS THE BILL

Wing king set for Euro fight with rivals

- BY DAVID BARNES

EDINBURGH will be boosted by the return of Darcy Graham ahead of Saturday’s 1872 Cup clash against arch-rivals Glasgow Warriors.

The derby match at Murrayfield is bound to have extra bite because the winner will qualify for the European Champions Cup next season, while the loser will end up in the second-tier Challenge Cup.

Livewire winger Graham has been out for six weeks with a leg injury but looked good in training yesterday.

Head coach Mike Blair said: “He has been moving well so we will see how he comes through. But he is looking good at the moment.

“It was a training-ground injury to his upper quad just before the Bath game, which he has had an issue with before, so we were a little bit more cautious with it.

“He has been able to get through training, although today was not too intense, so fingers crossed.

“He brings energy, experience, enthusiasm, skill and speed – so he is an important player.”

Blair confirmed that centre James Lang, No.8 Ben Muncaster and second-row Marshall Sykes are also fit again after injury.

Edinburgh are also hopeful that hooker Dave Cherry will return from his arm injury in time to face Glasgow but Stuart McInally is not expected to feature.

Meanwhile, Blair admits Gunners may have made the wrong call after Ramiro Moyano revealed he would be leaving the club after just one season.

The Argentinian winger has scored nine tries in 13 appearances for the capital outfit, establishing himself as a fans favourite in his short time in the capital.

But he’s set to move on this summer and Blair said: “He signed a one-year contract and we had to make a decision fairly early on in the season about him because of the balance and make-up of the squad

“We probably made that decision a bit early as he’s been extremely impressive on and off the pitch.”
