Prince pops to Tesco on his 40th birthday to see Big Issue pal Dave
PRINCE William marked his 40th birthday yesterday with a visit to the Big Issue vendor who helped him highlight the struggles of the homeless earlier this month.
The Duke of Cambridge dropped in to see 60-year-old Dave Martin at a Tesco store in Hammersmith, London.
Dressed in a khaki shirt and navy trousers, the prince shook hands and posed for photographs with Dave, who was selling copies of the Big Issue magazine at the supermarket.
During a stint with Dave on the streets of London earlier this month, William sold 32 copies of the Big Issue.
This week he and Dave appear on the cover of a special Big Issue edition, in which William vows to keep shining a light on the problem of homelessness.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to be planning a joint 40th birthday party in the summer after Kate’s celebrations in January were cancelled due to rising Covid-19 cases.
The Royal Family shared pictures of William over the past 40 years to mark his milestone birthday.
The photos showed the second in line to the throne as a newborn, graduating from St Andrews University, at Sandhurst, working as a search and rescue helicopter pilot and on his wedding day.
William was also pictured surrounded by his three children – Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, seven, and four-year-old Prince Louis – in a snapshot released for Father’s Day.
The Queen spent her grandson’s 40th at Windsor, where the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby visited to present her with a Canterbury Cross for her service to the Church of England during her 70-year reign.
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall also wished William a “very happy 40th birthday”.
Clarence House’s account shared photos of William, including one of him as a newborn with Prince Charles, and another of him skiing with his father.
William also issued his own personal thank you to well wishers on his milestone birthday.
The message, signed with a “W” and posted on the Kensington Palace Twitter account, said: “Thank you for all the happy birthday messages today!”
