Bid to get back 2nd home cash

- BY PAUL HUTCHEON

THE Scottish Government has agreed to examine how to claw back cost-of-living payments to second-home owners.

Ministers say they’ll work with councils to take back the £400 through extra council tax payments.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak recently announced every household would receive the cash sum off their energy bills in August.

But the Tories admitted those with multiple homes will pocket the sum for each property.

In a motion yesterday, Labour urged the Holyrood Government to recoup double payments.

Labour MSP Mark Griffin said the government have been “asleep at the wheel throughout this cost-ofliving crisis”.

A government amendment to the motion agreed to examine “all options” to recover the cash through a council tax levy on second and empty homes.
