Sex workers’ fund to fight strip club ban

-

A SEX workers’ union has raised £20,000 to launch a legal challenge against the City of Edinburgh Council over a ban on strip clubs.

In March, the council voted through a nil-cap policy limiting the number of venues in the city to zero, which will put an estimated 100 jobs at risk.

That will force the four strip clubs in Edinburgh to shut from next April.

United Sex Workers (USW) union are preparing to challenge the ban which they say flies in the face of the Equality Act 2010.

About 100 dancers will lose work. The group hopes the move will set a precedent to make all strip club bans unlawful and improve strippers’ working rights. The council was approached for comment.
