PUSS IN BOOT

Missing moggie Maverick is found 250 miles from home after stowing away in the back of a delivery truck

A STOWAWAY tabby has toured Scotland in the back of a van.

Shy puss Maverick was found hiding in the back of a delivery lorry, which travelled to Scotland from Barnsley, Yorkshire.

The van covered the Central Belt and ventured to Perth and Dundee, before the cat was found at Bridge of Weir.

Maverick was found last week but is still too shy to let carers close enough to see if he is microchipped.

The van had set out from Barnsley and travelled to North Berwick, Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy, Dundee, Perth, Glasgow, and Bridge of Weir.

But it is not known when the hideaway got on.

Scottish SPCA centre manager Judy Button said: “The cat is a tabby and white-coloured male, who we have named Maverick.

“There’s no way to know which stop he got on the lorry at – he could have come from anywhere.

“Maverick is extremely nervous, so we have been unable to get close enough to locate a microchip.

“His nervousness leads us to think he is a house cat but we are unsure.

“He could have got into the lorry while exploring as an outdoor cat.

“Either way we are sure someone will be missing him. Thankfully Maverick is now safe at our centre but we are desperate to find his owner.

“If anyone recognises this cat, or has information, please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
