I’M WORRIED I’LL FEEL DAFT AS A STUDENT VIRGIN

-

Dear Coleen

I’M 18 and due to go to university in September. I’m looking forward to it but I’m worrying about the social side of things because I’ve never had a proper girlfriend and I’ve never had sex.

All of my mates have slept with people and most are dating, so I’m struggling to fit in.

I actually get a lot of attention from girls and have plenty of female friends who tell me I’m fit but I’ve never taken things further than kissing a girl. Please help!

Coleen says

OK, take a deep breath and stop panicking! First of all, I’m sure there will be plenty of other teenagers arriving at university who haven’t had sex.

Of course, there will be those who have had sex and been in relationships. But it’s not a race or a competition – we all do things at different stages when it feels right for us.

It’s important to not feel pressured just because you perceive your mates as being ahead of you.

You’ll have sex when you meet someone you really fancy and who you feel comfortable with, and university is the perfect place to meet that someone.

Enjoy this exciting time.
