Well swoop to snap up Paul from the Hibees

- BY IAN ORR

MOTHERWELL boss Graham Alexander reckons new recruit Paul McGinn will be a huge player for the Steelmen in the new Premiership campaign.

The defender earned his first Scotland cap last year after impressing for Hibs.

But he has now swapped Easter Road for Fir Park and Alexander is thrilled to have snared the 31-year-old on a one-year deal.

The Well gaffer said: “We’re very happy that Paul has agreed to join us and add to our defensive options. He has proven quality in the Premiership and his playing record is excellent since coming back to Scotland.

“I feel we’ve brought in a talented and motivated player, whose character and experience will be very important to us.”

The right-back made 91 appearances for the Hibees but now can’t wait to begin his Well career.

McGinn said: “I’m really pleased to get this sorted and glad that Hibs were helpful in getting this over the line, as these things can sometimes drag on.

“It was important to me to be playing regularly and this is a great opportunity.

“I’ve loved my time at Hibs. I’ve worked with and met the best of people. It’s an amazing club.”

Matt Macey’s Hibs exit was also finalised last night as he completed his £100,000 switch to Luton.

The 6ft 7in keeper was deemed surplus to requirements after the Easter Road side signed David Marshall.

And now he is returning to Kenilworth Road where he was previously on loan from Arsenal back in 2017.

Macey told the Hatters’ website: “I’m coming back with over 100 games under my belt. I’ve grown up.”
