APOLOGIES FOLLOW WHERE MASON TREADS
MASON has hit the headlines time and again for his comments.
● In 2017, referring to the IndyRef, he tweeted: “Marginal view was no to indy. We hope to change that. The girl does not always say yes first time!” He said his view had been “misinterpreted”. ● Mason also apologised that year after he sent a tweet suggesting some people view IRA killers as “freedom fighters”.
● In 2018 Mason upset a disabled Celtic supporter who raised concerns that restrictions to parking at the ground would stop him from going to games. Mason responded: “Could you think about supporting a smaller more local club that would appreciate your adding to their crowd?”
● In 2018 he was accused of “cowardice” for quietly backing a Bill to pardon gay men after saying he didn’t agree with retrospective apologies.
● In 2021, in the pandemic, Mason promised to hold face-to-face constituency meetings, saying: “Surely we should be bold, take risks, and trust in Jesus?”
● Last year he claimed abortion services are seldom “essential”. In May he said campaigners outside a health facility were “gentle” and “helpful”.
