GONE DOWN A STORM
Weather plays havoc with summer rock concerts
STORMS brought chaos to the summer yesterday as festivals and ferries were hit by the wet and windy weather.
Winds were close to 50mph in the south-west, forcing the cancellation of Youth Beatz 2022 at Park Farm in Dumfries.
Organisers of the free festival – which earlier starred singer Pixie Lott – said they were “beyond devastated” but said they had no choice in the light of safety fears. In Glasgow, Liam Gallagher fans had to battle showers, high winds and transport difficulties just to reach Hampden Park for the former Oasis frontman’s show.
As a consequence of a reduced Sunday timetable, there were no trains to Glasgow Central from Mount Florida or King’s Park stations after the concert and no services out of the city centre when the music ended at 10.30pm.
Similar issues will face those going to the Hella Mega Tour featuring Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer at the city’s Bellahouston Park on Wednesday night. Yesterday, strong winds forced the cancellation of morning CalMac crossings between Ardrossan and Brodick, Gourock to Dunoon, Tarbert Loch Fyne to Portavadie and Mallaig to Lochboisdale.
The service from Ardrossan to Campbeltown was cancelled for the whole day.
