Leach is a perfect 10 as England run show

-

JACK LEACH claimed 10 wickets in a Test match for the first time ever as England took charge against New Zealand.

The Somerset ace finished by taking 10-166 across the match – making him the first spinner to do so at Headingley in a decade.

With just 113 more runs required by Joe Root and his fellow batsmen to clinch a 3-0 whitewash on day five, the dressing room atmosphere could not be any better.

Leach hailed Ben Stokes for revolutionising his outlook on the game and said: “Stokesy’s confidence in his decisions and in us as 11 blokes, I’ve never experienced anything like it. Getting 10 wickets, yeah I’m quite proud of that. I don’t know if I thought it was possible for me or not. Probably not.”

He praised new coach Brendon “Baz” McCullum for lifting morale following his recent appointment.

Leach said: “My biggest thing is having belief in myself and that’s what Ben and Baz have really helped.

“It looks like that’s starting to pay off. The atmosphere in the dressing room, the positive way of doing things, is something I’ve never had before.”

Ollie Pope remains 81 not out alongside Joe Root on 55 but Matt Potts worked tirelessly for his tremendous 3-66.
