MALKY’S JOY AT WAIT GAIN

- Scott Burns

MALKY MACKAY admits patience has been key in Ross County landing Owura Edwards on loan.

The Bristol City winger had been tracked by the Staggies for some time and will join his new teammates on their pre-season trip to Italy.

County are the fifth club the Robins have sent the 21-year-old to after stints at Bath City, Grimsby, Exeter and Colchester.

Staggies boss Mackay said: “Owura is a player our recruitment department spent a significant amount of time tracking and during that process it was very clear he would be a great addition to our group.

“At 21, he has gone out and proven himself across the EFL levels, really learning about the rigours of men’s football, and that is great credit to him.

“Prior to us coming to Italy, Owura came up to Dingwall to meet with us. Both parties are excited about his move to the Premiership and the part he can play for Ross County.”

Edwards is Mackay’s fourth signing this summer.

He follows attacking midfielder Yan Dhanda from Swansea and Cavalry midfielder Victor Loturi, as well as Oxford City leftback George Harmon in heading to the Highlands.

Mackay is also likely to run the rule over a number of trialists, while he is in talks to land keeper Jake Eastwood from Sheffield United on loan to challenge Ross Laidlaw for the No.1 spot in Dingwall.

Eastwood had a spell in Scotland with Kilmarnock in the second half of 2020 but it was wrecked when he suffered a serious injury on his debut.

However, he is fit again and County hope a deal can be done so he can join them in Verona.
