GARCIA’S NOT AFRAID OF CROWD
CAROLINE GARCIA has warned Emma Raducanu she will not fear a partisan Centre Court gallery.
The French former top 10 big hitter won her third tournament on grass in Germany at the weekend and arrived late in London before beating Britain’s Yuriko Miyazaki in a third set super tie-break to earn a tilt at the US Open champion.
If 28-year-old Garcia, from
Lyon, knocks out Raducanu she will have to face the all England Club’s posh wrath but she smiled: “I mean, it’s part of the deal, eh?
“You know, when I play in the French Open it’s kind of the same the other way around – you know what is going to happen and I think it’s completely fair. You’re not going to complain about it.
“Most of the time in tennis, British people are nice. Obviously they want the British player to win but they are still fair and respectful.
“Normally I have nothing to say about it. It’s completely normal they cheer for the player from their country.
“It’s going to be my first match on Centre Court, and it’s always a pleasure to be playing on the big courts of the Slams. The one at Wimbledon is very special.”
