Jodie’s so sweet as she helps stricken ball boy

-

JODIE BURRAGE was the first Brit knocked out at Wimbledon – but she still brought home the bacon after rescuing a stricken ball boy with a pack of Percy Pig sweets.

Despite slumping to a 6-2, 6-3 defeat on Court No.18 against Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko, 23-year-old Burrage won the crowd’s hearts as a freelance first-aider.

Play was suspended for more than five minutes when Burrage spotted a ball boy clearly feeling unwell – and she rushed to the fridge by the umpire’s chair to fetch a cold drink before a spectator handed the English ace a packet of the well-known confectionery brand.

She said: “I just reacted how I think anyone would. He was not in a good spot. I just tried to help him out as much as possible.

“He just said he was feeling really faint. He couldn’t actually really talk. It was quite distressing to see, so I just tried to get him some sugar, gave him a Gatorade and a gel.

“The gel is not the nicest thing but someone managed to find some Percy Pigs somewhere along the line in the crowd, which he got down and then started to feel better. Hopefully he’s feeling better now.

“To be honest, the stoppage didn’t affect me too much, I guess. I actually came out, hit a great serve and, if anything, it helped me. I just hope he’s OK.”
