MOST SCOTS ARE OPPOSED TO OCTOBER ‘23 POLL
THE majority of Scots are against Nicola Sturgeon’s October 2023 referendum date, a poll has found.
Asked if there should be a referendum held that month, 53 per cent of Scots said there should not, with 40 per cent backing the idea.
The First Minister wants to hold a vote on Scotland’s constitutional future on October 19 next year, if the Supreme Court deems it to be legal.
Support for independence was given at 44 per cent, with No voters at 46 per cent, both down one per cent from the last poll in May.
A further 10 per cent of voters are undecided, up three. With undecideds removed, 51 per cent would vote No and 49 per cent would vote Yes.
The Savanta ComRes survey also found that 40 per cent think the case for independence is stronger than in 2014, with 32 per cent saying it is weaker. Nine per cent didn’t know.
