HEATHER IS WIDE AWAKE NOW
HEATHER WATSON will be grateful for the early start on No.1 Court against Slovenian Kaja Juvan today – she might actually be able to stay awake for it.
The 30-year-old Brit admitted after her 7-5 6-4 second-round win over Qiang Wang – carried over from the night before – that she’s struggling with sleep and begged not to be kept up late today.
She said: “I slept awfully because during my match I had to take caffeine to stay up for it when we’re playing at 9pm at night. I got probably just shy of four hours’ sleep and woke up not feeling great in the morning.”
Fellow Brit Harriet Dart bowed out despite a positive start against eighth seed Jessica Pegula. The 25-year-old admitted she could “not find any solutions” as the American went through 4-6 6-3 6-1.
Top seed Iga Swiatek needed three sets to see off Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove 6-4 4-6 6-3.
