Down time drove crocked Kyle crazy

KYLE EDMUND returns to tennis after almost two years of injury hell today, admitting he forgot who he was without the game.

The former British No 1, who reached the semi-final of the 2018 Australian Open, makes his comeback in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon after being sidelined by a knee problem, which required three ops.

Edmund, who will team up with fellow Brit Olivia Nicholls against US pair Coco Gauff and Jack Sock in the first round, said: “It was tough. It taught me a lot of things.

“I’ve only known tennis for my whole career really so when I didn’t have that, there were times when I was saying, ‘I feel like I’ve lost my identity. I’m a tennis player so now I don’t have that, what am I doing? Every time I wake up in the morning, I have no purpose’. That was stuff I struggled with.

“At times I was like, ‘I don’t know where this is going. I don’t know how I’m going to get back playing’. So it feels like a reward for me to be here.”
