FESTIVALGOERS basked in the sunshine yesterday as the curtain came down on Scotland’s biggest music festival.

The third, and final, day of TRNSMT, at Glasgow Green, saw chart-topper Lewis Capaldi close the event with his main stage performance for 50,000 revellers. The weekender also saw performances from Scots singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt, rockers Wolf Alice and Australian trio DMA’s as temperatures soared during the hottest day of the year. Fans hailed TRNSMT a resounding success after 70 acts performed over three days, including Saturday headliners

The Strokes and Friday’s top billed act Paolo Nutini. The sell-out event saw 150,000 fans lap up the action.

Victoria McNaught, 17, from Glasgow, said: “It’s been absolutely brilliant. We enjoyed Example and had been desperate to see Lewis Capaldi.”

Summer McLennan, 17, also from Aberdeen, said: “There’s lots of music and partying. We’re here for the whole weekend. I love Sam Fender.”

Student Jordan Buist, 22, from Perth said: “TRNSMT is such a breath of fresh air, especially after the last couple of years.”

Care worker Ciara Baillie, 23, from

Blairgowrie, Perthshire, said: “Today is great because it’s sunny and was looking forward to seeing the Snuts on Saturday because they pulled out last year due to Covid.”

Student Tom Hamilton, 21, from Glasgow, said: “It’s been three days of fantastic sunshine, great company and brilliant music. I’ll be first in the queue to buy TRNSMT tickets for next year.

“My favourites from the weekend are Strokes, Snuts, Nina Nesbitt and, of course, Lewis Capaldi.”

Connor Fyfe, 15, became the youngest artist ever to perform at TRNSMT when he played the River Stage.

He bought tickets for the TRNSMT

weekend before he discovered he had been added to the bill.

The Bellshill Academy pupil said: “It’s good to be the youngest person to play TRNSMT but no matter what age you are, it’s always going to be a buzz getting asked to play a festival of this scale.

“I had a weekend ticket, so I was here the last two days kicking about with my mates.

“I spent the last two days here with my mates seeing Paolo and The Strokes. I was lip synching to all my favourite tunes to save my voice but I’m a bit sunburned.”

Rising star Dylan John Thomas, who counts Liam Gallagher and Gerry Cinnamon among his fans, also performed on the main stage yesterday, performing a cover of the Johnny Cash classic Ring of Fire in his set.

The singer-songwriter, who was brought up in foster care, told the crowd: “What a buzz this is. We used to busk outside this. Now we’re on the main stage. Bonkers, man.”

Speaking to The Record, he added: “It’s a full circle moment for me going from busking to playing the main stage.

“It’s something you dream of when you are from Glasgow.

“I get the magnitude of what TRNSMT is and to be playing here in the middle of Glasgow is tough to comprehend. I am literally living the dream.”

TRNSMT boss Geoff Ellis spoke of his relief at its success after the festival was cancelled in 2020 due to Covid and last year’s event had to be postponed until September.

He also promised they would learn from any hiccups. He said: “This year is a resounding success in many ways but I’ll always look at the things that aren’t perfect, including people having to queue for long periods.

“Overall, it’s a resounding success but we can also do better.”

Fans had to find alternative ways to get home from the festival after train services were disrupted for the second year running.

The last Scotrail service from Bridgeton into the city centre left at 9.24pm last night, as Capaldi took the the stage and long before his set finished at 11pm.

The rail operator has slashed hundreds of services due to ongoing driver shortages.

I get the magnitude of it and am living the dream DYLAN JOHN THOMAS ON PLAYING TRNSMT
