Leaked files show Uber’s political help
THOUSANDS of leaked files have revealed how ride firm Uber courted top European politicians and tried to avoid justice.
While French cabbies protested against Uber, Emmanuel Macron – now French president – told its boss Travis Kalanick he would reform laws for him.
The files also show how ex-EU commissioner Neelie Kroes was in talks to join Uber and secretly lobbied for the firm.
The cache of more than 124,000 files, from 2013 to 2017, were shared with journalists, and show how Kalanick – forced out in 2017 – ordered a “kill switch” to stop police accessing computers.
Uber has said its “past behaviour wasn’t in line with present values” and it is a “different company” .
