THIS was such a big hit first time around that some people even called it “better than Bridgerton”.

The brilliantly tongue-in-cheek, overthe-top period drama returns with Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult, above, back as Catherine and Peter III of Russia. In this series Catherine finally takes the Russian throne for herself.

But she quickly learns that dethroning her husband was just the beginning of her fight to liberate the country. It will also mean battling her own court and those closest to her, including her own mother, played by Gillian Anderson.

And then she also has to navigate matters of the heart with Peter.
