FURIOUS Record readers have been calling for a healthcare strike after one NHS nurse told how she would be better off working at McDonald’s.

Lyn Wormald, an auxiliary nurse, receives £10.64 per hour for her role at Ross Memorial Hospital in Dingwall.

Meanwhile, an hourly wage at the fast-food chain just over 15 miles away in Inverness would pay as much as £11 per hour.

Readers have been branding the figures as “shocking”.

Lynn Fraser Mc Ginty said: “The whole nursing and caring professionals are underpaid for the work they do, it’s shocking.”

Tracey Dee added: “Think it is time to strike. Train drivers do it and other occupations. Nurses’ dedication to helping the ill isn’t a reason to be held to ransom anymore. Plenty of agency staff to cover. There are so many agency staff now on wards due to the mass exodus of NHS nurses. Something has to be done.”

And David Hamill said: “Everyone needs a pay rise, all bills are increasing... but wages are bad. God help the disabled who can’t work.”
