Chisora’s gunning for Wilder
DEREK CHISORA has set his sights on a showdown with Deontay Wilder.
Chisora, 38, halted his run of three consecutive defeats with a split-decision win over Kubrat Pulev at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday night.
Judges scored the heavyweight contest 112-116, 116-112 and 116-114 to give revenge to ‘Del Boy’ after he lost to the Bulgarian back in 2016.
Chisora said: “Deontay Wilder next? Yeah, why on earth not?”
Promoter Eddie Hearn said: “Derek is capable of doing whatever he wants.
“He wants the biggest fights for the most amount of money but has just beaten a top-15, and arguably a top-10, heavyweight, so that should put paid to anyone who says he hasn’t got it any more.” CYCLING: Bob Jungels clung on to win stage nine of the Tour de France in Chatel yesterday.
Victory for Jungels came after the Luxembourger tested positive for Covid-19 in the week before the Tour began, although the 29-year-old was allowed to take part in the race after doctors deemed he was not contagious to others.
Jungels went solo off the penultimate categorised climb of the 193-kilometre stage from Aigle to the Portes du Soleil ski station, still with some 64km to go, and held off a spirited late attack from Thibaut Pinot, but Tadej Pogacar’s quest for a third consecutive title might be hit by Covid-19.
Three riders in two days had to pull out after being infected and showing symptoms, raising fears that only half of the riders could eventually finish. CRICKET: England defeated India by 17 runs in their 20-20 international at Trent Bridge.
England finished 215/7 while Inda ended at 198/8, but despite losing the match on Sunday India won the series 2-1.
Bowler Reece Topley of England was named man of the match.
