Goodwin’s delight as Duk lands at Pittodrie
JIM GOODWIN insists Aberdeen have landed another potent attacking weapon after Luis Lopes arrived on a three-year deal from Benfica.
The Dons boss believes the 22-year-old Cape Verde international striker will bolster his squad’s goalscoring department and keep his fellow hitmen on their toes.
It’s a seventh summer signing for the club and is subject to the successful completion of the UK immigration process.
But Goodwin is convinced the player, who also goes by the name, ‘Duk’, and scored eight times in 20 appearances for Benfica’s B team last season, will be a welcome addition as well as a work in progress.
He said: “Luis is another good addition for us and it creates more competition for places, something I was keen to build within the squad this year.
“He is quick, strong, and powerful and he fits our recruitment strategy perfectly. He is a young player who still has a lot to learn, and he is not quite the finished article yet, but we firmly believe we will give him the platform to perform and continue his development.
“He’s had a really good football education at Benfica, and I am sure he will come to Aberdeen, score goals, and make a positive impact.
“He’s just 22, he’s got a lot of development to do, but he fits in with our model and recruitment policy up to date and one that we think will be another good addition at the top end of the pitch.
“I’ve said in recent weeks that’s an area we need to strengthen as we need competition.
“Not just in the starting XI but when we need someone to come on and make changes in a match as well.”
