BLADE RUNNER 2049 10.30PM, BBC1
Director Denis Villeneuve’s sequel honours the past and expands the nihilistic universe imagined by Philip K Dick in his novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Ryan Gosling stars as an androidhunter working for the LAPD who uncovers a secret and goes in search of the detective (Harrison Ford) who could provide him with answers. Motifs from Ridley Scott’s 1982 film reverberate tantalisingly throughout. ★★★★★
FURY 10.05PM, ITV4
During the final months of World War II, a US sergeant leads a tank crew on one last, dangerous mission behind enemy lines. They must do battle with a seemingly overwhelming number of enemy forces but the task isn’t made any easier by the presence of a naive new recruit in their midst. Brad Pitt takes the lead role in this drama from director David Ayer, who was inspired to make it by the activities of his own family during the war. ★★★★
LUCY IN THE SKY 11.10PM, FILM4
Nasa astronaut Lucy Cola (Natalie Portman) returns to Earth and experiences a crushing sense of disappointment with her husband Drew (Dan Stevens). She is determined to earn her spot on the next mission and throws herself into training. Alas, Lucy’s mental state fractures and she seeks comfort in the arms of astronaut Mark Goodwin (Jon Hamm). When Lucy learns he has taken a fancy to younger rival, jealousy takes a vice-like grip. ★★★
GEMINI MAN 9PM, FILM4
Former Marine turned sniper Henry Brogan (Will Smith) is contracted by the Defence Intelligence Agency to carry out hits on foreign targets. Henry successfully neutralises a rogue scientist, only to later learn the intelligence was bogus. Before he can confirm suspicions of DIA interference, he is targeted by a covert military unit called Gemini. The assassin is Henry’s cloned younger self. Turbo-charged action thriller. ★★★
THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE 11PM, CHANNEL 5
When a doctor commits suicide after allegations of sexual harassment, his devastated widow Peyton (Rebecca De Mornay), who believes she lost her unborn baby due to the stress, lays the blame at the door of his accuser Claire Bartel (Annabella Sciorra). Determined to get her revenge, Peyton applies to become Claire’s nanny. But how far will the childminder go to ruin her boss’s life? It may not be original but this thriller is gripping. ★★★★
ROBOCOP 9PM, ITV4
In the future, Detroit is on the brink of collapse due to crime. Omni Consumer Products steps in to take over the police. Officer Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) is killed and rebuilt as a cyborg. But old memories remain, prompting him to track down criminals who killed him. ★★★★
