MUIR CHASES HER FIVE-STAR REVIEW IN US d

-

LAURA MUIR insists she has unfinished business in Oregon as the Scots track star bids to blaze her own trail tonight at the World Championships.

After breezing into the women’s 1500metres final, the 29-year-old is desperate to claim the only major title that has eluded her in an incredible career.

The Olympic silver medallist ran her quickest time of 2022 with a 4:01.78 to come second in the semi-final and tee up a push for the podium.

Muir said: “I’m feeling pretty good, really happy with that.

“I didn’t think that was 4.01, it felt easier than that. That’s a really good sign.”

Tokyo’s golden girl Faith Kipyegon will be as clear a favourite as they come this week while Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay is considered by many as the only realistic challenger to the brilliant Kenyan. The good news for Muir is that the other 10 qualifiers are about par.

She said: “It’s nuts, this is my fifth Worlds and my fifth world final. I made two in 2017. I’m getting, I don’t know if I’d say old, but experienced. Hopefully it’s fifth time lucky for getting on that podium.”

Race by race this summer, for the most part, the British record holder has shown improvements in freeing herself from the hip issue that disrupted her spring.

But Muir has been here before, in the 2019 final in Doha when she came off an injury to produce her second quickest run.

Fellow Scots Jake Wightman, Josh Kerr and Neil Gourley all made it from their opening heats into last night’s men’s 1500m semi-finals.

But none of the British men made it through to the 100m final where Fred Kerley led a US one, two, three in 9.86 seconds ahead of Marvin Bracy and Trayvon Bromell. Deposed champ Christian Coleman finished sixth.
