I can’t watch myself. I’m my worst critic

The Scottish weather presenter, 60, on Netflix binges, Vicky McClure being her mark of quality and showing footie the red card...

-

Hi, Carol! What are your favourite TV programmes?

I’ve been watching Ozark on Netflix. I mean there are five million episodes to get through but it’s really good. You can’t help but get caught up in it. I also like Line Of Duty and Trigger Point. Vicky McClure is absolutely brilliant – if I see she is in something, I will watch it.

Have you always binged?

I didn’t have Netflix pre-lockdown but now I watch it much more than ever before. You do become, maybe not obsessed, but more involved, shall we say, in the different programmes.

Do you have a favourite soap opera?

Neighbours but that is ending. I don’t tend to watch the evening soaps because I am

disciplined about going to bed early. I am more of a Netflix girl or Amazon Prime, or even watching things on catch-up.

Who controls the remote control at home? Me! My cat, Donald, sadly died but he used to. I’d have the remote and he would put his paw on top of it. I’d be getting to a good bit in a show, then the channel would change. He was nearly 21, I’d had him since he was a kitten. He was my pride and joy.

Is there anything that you don’t like watching on TV?

I really don’t like watching football. If I watch it, it’s by accident while channel hopping.

Do you ever watch yourself on telly?

Never! I’m my worst critic so I’ll be thinking, ‘Why did I say that? Why did I wear that? Oh, my goodness, why did I start that sentence with that?’

Tell us about your new novel, The Hotel On The Riviera...

It’s essentially a romance but with lots of twists and turns. It’s set on the French Riviera in a hotel that is quite shabby with somebody living in the penthouse – but we don’t know who or why they’re there.

l Carol’s second novel, The Hotel On The Riviera, is out now.
