Shaun agony over playing without Paul
HAPPY Mondays’ frontman Shaun Ryder has revealed his brother Paul’s death only hit him when he got back on stage.
The indie singer, 59, admitted he couldn’t process the loss of his sibling and bandmate two weeks ago until he played their 1990 hit Kinky Afro.
Shaun has been comforting his mum Linda, who found Paul, 58, dead in bed just hours before the Mondays were due to playthe Kubix festival in Sunderland.
He said: “We were best mates – there was only an 18-month age difference between us. It [his death] didn’t really hit me until I went on stage and he wasn’t there.
“But I couldn’t stop the show or anything, so I just kept going.”
