A MAN who wants to end his life at a euthanasia clinic has asked Holyrood to include mental health in proposed laws on assisted dying.
Kevin Sutherland, 31, was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) nine years ago and said it had made life “unbearable”. Now he has lodged a petition at the Scottish Parliament.
Record readers debated the proposed laws.
Patricia Taylor said: “Everyone should have the right to decide when they’ve had enough.”
David McKinnon wrote: “I agree with assisted dying if you have a terminal illness but this shouldn’t include mental health issues.”
Zoe Lamont added: “You are not in a rational mind when you are struggling with mental health. I don’t think you are able to make a decision about assisted dying when you are in that frame of mind.”
Claber Aper said: “I was diagnosed with BPD and felt the same way at his age. I’m now 48 and not the same mentally ill woman. You need a decent support network, do not give up.”
