EILISH TO SHOW HER MEDAL

-

EILISH McCOLGAN believes she is on track to medal at the Commonwealth Games despite coming up short at the World Championships.

The Scot clung on to finish 11th in the 5000m in Eugene – one place worse than in the 10,000m – as Ethiopia’s 1500m silver medallist Gudaf

Tsegay won in 14:46.29. But the 31-year-old isn’t too despondent after suffering illness and a hamstring issue in the run-up and is eyeing the podium in Birmingham.

McColgan said: “I’m proud of myself for the way I covered it, I was probably more involved there than in the 10k which I thought would be the other way round.

“I’m a little disappointed but with 1k to go I was thinking ‘will I make it?’ as opposed to ‘I feel strong’.

“It is what it is, I’m here, two major finals and my hamstring is still attached.”
