PETE: JAMIE’S LIKE MY DAD HERE
PETER URMINSKY insists he has father-figure Jamie Langfield to thank for helping him make his big breakthrough at St Mirren.
The Slovakian keeper waited twoand-a-half years for a taste of firstteam action after being signed on the goalie coach’s recommendation.
But after playing three group games with Trevor Carson sidelined by a knee issue, he hopes to keep the No.1 shirt for Sunday’s Premiership opener against Motherwell.
The Buddies ended their failed group campaign with a win over Edinburgh thanks to a Jonah Ayunga double and a Mark O’Hara spotkick. And Urminsky said: “Jamie is like my father in Scotland. He got me a trial and chose me to be his project because I was still so young.
“He pushes me hard every day. You see keepers getting a chance but I was still waiting and waiting. Now it comes in cup games and I hope to get a chance in the league as well.”
