I hope that I did enough for a spot against Gers

- IAIN COLLIN

PHILLIP CANCAR won a penalty and scored a late goal to help Livingston qualify for the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup.

It sets the Almondvale men up for their opening Premiership game against Rangers next week and the defender is desperate to face Gio Van Bronckhorst’s men after travelling half-way around the world to do so.

Australian Cancar “Those are the type of games as a kid you dream of – a full stadium, playing against big clubs like Celtic and Rangers. We’re all buzzing and can’t wait.

“We all want to play in this game and we’ll all give 110 per cent.

“The main thing is that we won on Saturday and that I was able to play.”

Cancar started on the bench but was thrown on after just five minutes when Cristiano Montano suffered a sickening head knock.

He was then clipped by Alfie Agyeman for a 12th-minute penalty which Sean Kelly found the net from.

And the Aussie settled Livi’s nerves in the 77th minute when he rattled in Stephane Omeonga’s cutback.

That ensured Livi went through as one of the best runners-up and Cancar added: “It’s good that we’re through. We did it a little bit the hard way but we kept fighting.”

Kelty’s injury crisis meant coach Dougie Hill was forced to play after hanging up his boots in the summer.

He said: “It’s the shortest retirement in history! It just shows you the amount of injuries we’ve got.

“We’re bare bones at the back but they’re not longterm and hopefully you’ve seen the last of me.”
