A MUSIC teacher is hoping to whip the judges up to a crescendo and bring the Great British Bake off crown home.

Kevin Flynn, from Lanarkshire, has been revealed as a contestant in the latest series of the TV stalwart and is hoping to follow in the footsteps of 2020 winner, Edinburgh student Peter Hawkins.

And if the 33-year-old saxophonist’s mouth-watering Instagram posts are anything to go by, he has a great chance of seeing off the other 11 contestants taking part in the Channel 4 show.

The talented musician, who is also accomplished at the flute, piano and clarinet, started baking when he was 17 and has been creating delicious desserts and breads ever since.

Kevin, who is married to equestrian enthusiast Rachel, 32, likes to champion seasonal Scottish ingredients and loves coming up with odd combinations using fruits, herbs, nuts and spices.

The Royal Scottish Academy of Music graduate revealed he was taking part in Bake Off ’s 13th series by posting a video of him playing the theme tune on the piano with the words “secret’s out”.

Kevin, who performs as well as teaches, is hoping to impress judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood with his big-flavoured bakes and emulate the success of Peter and the other Scots like Flora Shedden, from Perthshire, who made it to the semi-finals in 2015, and James Morton, from Shetland, who was runner-up in 2012.

Other contestants on this year’s series include an Angolan refugee, a nuclear physicist, a Gemma Collins enthusiast and a girl who went to prom with her cat.

Last year, Giuseppe Dell’Anno was named Ultimate Star Baker.

● The Great British Bake Off starts on Channel 4 on Tuesday, September 13, at 8pm.
