WHAT AN ACE CALL BY WIFE

-

DAVID DRYSDALE reckoned ending a 24-year wait for a Tour hole in one was all down to his caddie wife.

The Scot carded an ace on his opening hole on the second day of the Made in Himmerland in Denmark.

Vicky Drysdale talked her husband out of using an eight-iron and with his seven he sent his 164-yard shot to the bottom of the cup at his first hole – the 10th on the host Farso course – en route to a second straight 68 for a six-under tally.

It is his first ace in 1875 rounds in 565 DP World Tour events spread since his Tour debut in 1999.

Drysdale said: “It was a great start but I was actually thinking of hitting a little eight-iron to keep it out of the wind. But Vicky said, ‘Let’s go with the seven’ and I hit a lovely shot.

“It pitched about four feet short and trickled in, so what a great way to start my round.

“I’ve been so close in the past. I’ve played so many bloody tournaments and had lip-outs and horse shoes out. It’s more of a fluke than anything, isn’t it? Although it was a good shot.”

England’s Ross McGowan continues to lead, adding a 65 to his opening courserecord 62 to sit one clear of the field on 15 under.

Ewen Ferguson remains the best of the Scots, adding a 67 to be sharing fourth place on 12 under.

And Bob MacIntyre runner-up in the Danish event three years ago, hit seven birdies to sign for a 66 to sit on 11 under.

He said: “It’s a course where I’ve only got good memories. Even last year I think I was going to finish top 10 until I had a poor last hole. But I was pushing hard.

“There’s some funky holes where you’ve got to play with so much feel and that’s how I play.”

OTHER SCOTS: 132 – Craig Howie (68). 135 – Richie Ramsay (69). 136 – Stephen Gallacher (70). 137 – David Law (69). 138 – Grant Forrest (72). 139 – Marc Warren (71 missed cut). 140 – Connor Syme (69).

● Alastair Forsyth bridged a 22-year title gap to win the Loch Lomond Whiskies Scottish PGA Championship at West Kilbride.

The 2000 champion edged out Paul O’Hara on the second play-off hole after both finished 15 under.

Forsyth said: “This win is probably more satisfying than my first one.”
