Persiana Everyday
by Sabrina Ghayour (Aster, £26)
This elegant, beautifully designed collection of Middle Eastern recipes offers simple and speedy meals and includes no-cook recipes, one-pot recipes and oven-tray meals, using plenty of store-cupboard ingredients. Mouthwatering small plates and salads are followed by a range of poultry and meat mains (including tahini and citrus chicken kebabs), fish and seafood or vegetarian options like sweet potato and halloumistuffed rostis. The book aims to help busy people feed the family but there are plenty of options for impressing guests too.
Mezcla by Ixta Belfrage (Ebury Press, £26)
Worth buying for its vibrant cover alone, Mezcla means “mix, blend or fusion” and Ixta Belfrage blends the culinary influences of Italy, Brazil and Mexico, where she spent her formative years. She later cut her teeth in Yotam Ottolenghi’s Test Kitchen. Her recipes are split between Everyday and Entertaining, each section broken down into Veg, Fish, and Meat. Among Everyday “midweek meals” are spinach and herb dumplings with cherry tomato sauce or mussels and orzo in coconut and saffron.
