GERS VICTIMS OF CANCELL CULTURENOW

- BY DAVID BARNES

GLASGOW star Sebastian Cancelliere revealed he has turned his back on Rangers after fellow Argentinian Alexandro Bernabei signed for Celtic this summer.

The Puma winger enjoyed his first taste of Scottish football when some of his Warriors team-mates took him to watch Rangers’ Europa League semi-final win over RB Leipzig in May.

But he insists his heart is now green and white thanks to 22-year-old Bernabei’s £3.75million move to the Hoops from Lanus.

Cancelliere – one of four Argentinians at Warriors – said: “I know Alexandro and we’ve got together a few times.

“We found out that there was an Argie at Celtic and we sent him a message. So, we’re friends of Berna. He’s a good guy.

“Everyone else here at the club seems to be a Rangers fan and we went to the game in the Europa League against RB Leipzig at Ibrox and they won.

“But now Bernabei is playing at Celtic, I have the Celtic jersey on!

“We already went to watch Celtic when they played against Real Madrid.

“It was good fun and hopefully he will now come to some of our games here. He wants to do that.”

Cancelliere admitted that the switch in allegiance has not gone down well with some of his team-mates.

He laughed: “They don’t like it a lot that I am now a Celtic fan, especially Duncan Weir, but my heart is now green and white. Back home I support River Plate and I’ve been to the derbies against Boca.

“That’s a massive game but I would have to say the atmosphere at Celtic against Real Madrid was amazing as well.

“Hopefully one day we can reach the same atmosphere for games at Glasgow Warriors.”

In the meantime, Cancelliere is focused on maintaining the form he showed when helping Warriors to an excellent 52-24 win over Cardiff last weekend as he looks to get a call up from Argentina, who face Scotland at Murrayfield on November 19, ahead of next year’s World Cup.

The 29-year-old said: “Of course, that’s always an aim to play for my country.

“It’s a massive honour. It’s what all players want. So that’s my aim.”
