Social media rapped over teen’s death
THE dad of teenager Molly Russell yesterday called on Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to “listen and act” as a coroner found social media contributed to her death.
Senior coroner Andrew Walker ruled Molly, 14, “died from an act of self-harm whilst suffering from depression and the negative effects of online content”.
Ian Russell said Molly would be alive if not for the “demented trail of lifesucking content” she saw before her 2017 death.
He added: “A simple message to Mark (Zuckerberg) would be just to listen to people who use his platforms and the … coroner … and do something about it.”
Instagram and Facebook owner Meta said it would “carefully consider the coroner’s full report”.
