BREN: I’M BEST MAN FOR JOB

- BY JAMES NURSEY

LEICESTER v NOTTS FOREST

BRENDAN RODGERS reckons he still retains the trust of Leicester’s owners and insists he is the “best man” for the job.

The Foxes are bottom of the Premier League after six straight defeats – their worst start to a top-flight season since 1983/84.

They’ve conceded more goals (22) after seven games than any side in Premier League history and Rodgers is bookies’ favourite to be the next top-flight manager to leave his role.

Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, known as Top, is scheduled to attend Monday’s clash at the King Power Stadium with fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest, who are sitting 19th after four straight defeats.

Rodgers, in charge since leaving Celtic in February 2019, said: “The ownership trust me and they expect us to turn it around.

“If they don’t they will tell me. I have seen Top a number of times, I have had nothing but support from the club. But I also understand where we sit.

“If you are bottom of the league and you have lost six of your seven games you are not going to be flavour of the month.

“But I see these players work and I know I am the best person to help this team move forward.”

Rodgers, under contract until summer 2025, added: “I love being here and working here.

“This season has been a real challenge but I am looking to prove I can steer the team out of it.”
