Lunch for Tranent Pele but he’s still so hungry

-

ALAN HORNE met talk of him joining Bonnyrigg’s hall of fame with laughter.

But he need only look at New Dundas Park’s showers to see how serious this club are about progressing.

The Tranent Pele, as he’s been dubbed at Rose, will be honoured at a testimonial lunch tomorrow after more than 300 appearances.

From the juniors to the SPFL, Horne has been on every step of the journey.

The defender, 33, said: “When I first joined 10 years ago I never thought I’d stay at the club for that long.

“After the first couple of seasons it was clear I did want to stay because of how well Charlie (the chairman) and the committee run the club – the club was just so good to me all the time.

“Brendan, the treasurer, I can remember him saying the first couple of years he’d get me a testimonial, so he predicted that fairly early on.

“I just said, ‘Aye no bother mate, we’ll see how I get on’ – I didn’t really quite believe him! It’s a weird thing, it feels like the end of something.

“But in my mind I still feel as though I have got one or two more seasons in me.”

Rose could finish today third with victory over Stenhousemuir, a measure of how far they’ve come.

It sees a return home as Horne added: “Even just the facilities, when I started it was two showers just in a wee corner in the room – it was brutal. But now it’s really nice, it’s all been done up, it is getting better and better every year.”
