GOAL-HUNGRY TRIO MAINTAIN TOP SPOTS GRIP

- Alison McConnell

THE SWPL’s leading three showed why they are top of the tree as they swept aside their opponents on a day when their games went to form.

Table-toppers Glasgow City hammered Hamilton Accies 6-0 with Priscila Chinchilla marking her return from injury with a first-half double.

Jenna Clark chipped in with a double while there was a goal apiece for Emily Whelan and Kinga Kozak to set City up nicely for next weekend’s clash away to Rangers.

Interim boss Leanne Ross said: “It’s a big game and it’ll be tough but we’ll prepare for it the way that we have for the other games we’ve had recently.

“It’s been great to have Pri back. She gives us an extra attacking option. It was good to get some minutes into her before next Sunday.

“But it was a game of two halves again. In the second half the tempo dropped and we made a few changes. Sometimes when the subs come on they’re trying to make too much of an impact so that’s something we’ll look at.”

Rangers thumped Motherwell 7-0 as they found their groove after a frustrating midweek scoreless draw.

Tessel Middag netted a double while there were goals from all over the pitch as Kayla McCoy, Brogan Hay, Jenny Danielsson, Kirsty Howat and Megan Bell all got in on the act.

Boss Malky Thomson said: “I’m really pleased and happy. The preparation was great all week.

“If we have the vast majority of our team playing well then that’s what we are capable of and we’re difficult to beat. I knew the players were hurting after last week.

“The weather killed us then but they had a real focus and desire and were desperate to play this one. It’s great for me to see them become a team.

“We’re fitter and stronger and we definitely took care of the ball a bit better. We had a hunger and a desire and I can’t praise them enough.”

Celtic went one better against Partick Thistle with an emphatic 8-0 win as Fran Alonso’s side made up for their midweek draw.

There were doubles for Amy Gallacher and Chloe Craig with Natalie Ross, Shen Mengyu, Jacynta and Kelly Clark all getting their names on the scoresheet.

Hearts beat Aberdeen 1-0 while Dundee United condemned Glasgow Women to another week without a league win following their 2-1 victory. Spartans beat Hibs 2-1.
