A dog broke its front legs after jumping out of a flat window and falling 30ft when he spotted his owner outside.

Noodle – an Italian whippet and greyhound cross – was so excited to see owner Alfie Harrison that he plunged from his brother’s second floor window and plummeted to the ground. The 11-month-old pup was rushed to the vet for emergency surgery to repair shattered bones in both his front limbs.

They were able to set the bones and fit metal plates into each leg but now owner Alfie, who lives in Stirling, has been left with a bill of £8000.

The 24-year-old, who studies aquaculture, said: “I was visiting my brother at his university in Falmouth and I asked him to watch Noodle while I went down to the car.

“He turned his back for a minute and Noodle jumped on to a chair and looked out the window. I looked up and locked eyes with him and the next minute he just jumped towards me.

“There was a massive drop from the window to the carpark but he didn’t realise that – he just saw me and wanted to be with me.

“I just saw this grey blur falling down and he hit the ground.

“I ran towards him and he was making the most horrific sounds.

“I could see his legs had snapped and he was in so much pain.”

Frantic Alfie managed to splint Noodle’s legs with help from his brother and neighbours before he rushed him to the nearest veterinary hospital.

When they arrived, Alfie was told Noodle would need emergency surgery to survive but unfortunately, Noodle was not insured and the costs have left his owner with serious financial stress.

Aflie said: “I have an autistic spectrum disorder and Noodle helps me so much with that and also with my anxiety. He is such a massive part of my life and I just couldn’t say no to the surgery. He is my best friend.”

Noodle spent a few days in the veterinary hospital but is now back at home in Stirling recovering.

Devastated Alfie has managed to borrow money towards the bill from family and has also sold some of his belongings.

Friends of Alfie’s have also set up a fundraising page to help pay for his treatment.
