HAMMELL’S NOT DONE WITH DEALS

- BY SCOTT BURNS

STEVIE HAMMELL is still ready to do more business to get his Motherwell team kicked back into life in the Premiership.

The Steelmen are hoping to soon announce the signing of Japanese attacker Riku Dansaki, who is currently on loan at Brisbane Roar, and are still in the market for a leftback after Matt Penney returned to Ipswich Town.

Hammell has already brought in Shane Blaney, Ollie Crankshaw and Mikael Mandron.

It is likely Fir Park players could also go out with the likes of Carlisle, Barrow and Queen’s Park interested in a loan deal for Connor Shields.

Boss Hammell said: “We are hoping to do a bit in January but I can’t mention players attached to other teams but we are hopefully doing something.”

Frenchman Mandron came in on a free transfer from Gillingham.

The much-travelled striker had struggled for goals this season but scored two at Arbroath to set-up a Scottish Cup fifth round tie away to winners of Linlithgow Rose and Falkirk in the next round.

Hammell is pleased with the way Mandron has hit the ground running and said: “He showed up well this week in training. He scored a couple and maybe could have got one more if we are being hyper-critical.

“We had a good move that he ended up putting over the bar – but all in all delighted with him.”

Motherwell fans also got their first sighting of Blaney at the weekend. The Irish defender came in this month from Sligo Rovers and Hammell added: “I was delighted with Shane.

“It was a game that required that physicality and composed aggression that he has got. “All in all it was a good day at the office. We are confident if we keep a clean sheet that we can hurt teams because we are always going to create and score goals.

“We have been inconsistent this season. But even towards the end when Arbroath got a bit of momentum and tried to put balls into the box it was a game I felt we were comfortable in.

“The two goals we scored were excellent and we probably could have got another couple.

“We need to use the momentum and confidence, all these things and to start building in the league. It is very tight.”
