THEATRE BOSSES WARN SINGALONG FANS Rowdy crowds asked not to belt out Houston’s Bodyguard ballad

- BY DAVID MEIKLE

THEATRE bosses have pleaded with audiences to stop singing along to the tunes performed in hit musical show The Bodyguard.

Glasgow’s King’s Theatre issued a statement in a bid to crack down on antisocial behaviour at the venue. The touring stage show, based on the 1992 movie hit featuring Kevin Costner and the late Whitney Houston, has become one of Scottish theatre’s hottest tickets. But there have been a string of complaints from theatregoers about others trying to “out-sing” the professionals on stage. The musical features some of pop legend Houston’s biggest hits, including I Will Always Love You. The King’s said while it looked forward to welcoming guests to The Bodyguard, it “politely” asked for “consideration” to be shown to fellow audience members during performances. In a statement posted on social media, it said: “We all have a part to play in making sure the theatre is a fantastic experience for everyone.

“You can help by ensuring the professionals on stage are the only people entertaining us with their performances and by being kind to our dedicated staff who are here to make sure everyone is safe.

“Antisocial behaviour towards our staff or other customers will not be tolerated.”

Some theatregoers went on social media to complain about the behaviour of others. One said: “People seem to think they’re going to a gig.”

The Bodyguard ended its run in Glasgow last Saturday. It will be performed at Edinburgh’s Playhouse from February 20 to 25 and at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen from May 2 to 6.
