Andy’s all set for his Battle of the Brits

-

ANDY MURRAY is ready for his battle of the Brits at Indian Wells today after claiming his first straightsets victory this year.

The Scot beat Moldova’s Radu Albot 6-4 6-3.

Having won in straight sets for the first time since October, Murray tweeted: “I’d forgotten what that felt like. Bosh.”

The win set up a clash with Jack Draper after the 21-year-old beat 24th seed Dan Evans 6-4 6-2.

Draper has lost just eight games through his opening two matches of his Indian Wells Masters 1000 debut.

And Murray said: “He obviously plays really well. He’s not actually competed that much on the tour but, when he has done, he’s always performed really well.

“I think he’s going to be a top, top player for a long time, providing that he stays healthy. It will be a good match.”

British No.1 Cameron Norrie reached the last 16 with a 6-7 (5) 7-5 6-2 win over Japan’s Taro Daniel.

SWIMMING: Scotland’s Duncan Scott came fourth in the 100 metres freestyle last night at the Edinburgh International.

The Olympic gold medallist, 25, lost to British rival Tom Dean. Fellow Scot Lucy Hope was fourth in the 100m freestyle as Anna Hopkin claimed victory.

CRICKET: England suffered a T20 series defeat to Bangladesh as the home side restricted them to just 117 all out in their 20 overs before getting over the line to win by four wickets with seven balls to spare.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain said after the clash: “I don’t think it is good enough.”

ICE HOCKEY: Fife Flyers and Dundee Stars both saw their Elite League play-off hopes dented by defeats last night.

Fife were thumped 5-0 at Coventry Blaze while Stars went down 2-1 at home to Nottingham Panthers.

BASKETBALL: Caledonia Gladiators moved back into the BBL’s top four with a 92-83 win over Manchester Giants.
