David glad to see Gers B give Uni real lesson

-

RANGERS B manager David McCallum was full of praise for his side as they got back to form after picking up just one point in their last three games.

McCallum reckons the 3-0 win over Edinburgh Uni, which took them back to the top of the table and three points clear of Old Firm rivals Celtic B and Spartans, produced three outstanding goals.

“We went ahead after kick-off with a brilliant volley from Arron Lyall following a direct attack. The second half, again, there were two outstanding goals.

“It was an excellent way to win the game in terms of the three goals that we managed to get.”

McCallum is urging his players to end the season as strongly as possible after going top again and two-goal Lyall added: “A few games we haven’t had the breaks so it’s always good to get back on to that sort of winning streak and hopefully we can take that into our next game.

“There’s only four games left so we’ve got try and get three points from every single game.”

The young Gers got the perfect start with Lyall hitting a first-time volley past the helpless Uni keeper Cameron Quate.

And they went 2-0 up in the 58th minute when Robbie Ure’s cross was met by Lyall. In 62 minutes Lovelace added No.3.

Niyah Joseph stole the show with four goals as East Stirling hammered Dalbeattie Star 5-1.

Joseph put them ahead after only five minutes, doubled the score in the 24th minute and completed his hat-trick a minute after the restart.

Tyler Denholm and Joseph added two more with Peter Mendy getting a consolation for Star, who had skipper Steven Degnan sent off for a second yellow.

Managerless Bo’ness cruised to a 3-0 victory over Gretna for only their second win in 12 games.

Zander Miller shot them into a first-minute lead with Lennon Walker and Lewis McArther getting two in the second half.

Tranent turned in a strong second-half display and beat Open Goal Broomhill 2-1 with Kieran Somerville getting the winner

Marc Kelly hit all three goals for Caledonian Braves as they beat Berwick Rangers 3-2 with Michael Travis and Lewis Baker getting late goals for the Wee Gers.

Gala Fairydean and Cowdenbeath shared the points in a 2-2 draw and Stirling Uni were held to a 0-0 draw by Civil Service Strollers while the Hearts B v East Kilbride game was frozen off.

Celtic B drew 1-1 with Cumbernauld Colts on Friday.
