CALLUMN’S A TARGET MAN

Bairns ace eyes up promotion - and Hampden

-

CALLUMN MORRISON has already hit his first Falkirk target this season and has eyes set on two more – including a Cup semi-final place.

The 23-year-old was out to beat his tally of 11 goals and four assists from last season.

The attacker has been a big player for Falkirk, with 14 goals and nine assists more than eclipsing last term.

Now he wants to help the Bairns to win promotion from League One and add a trip to Hampden to their busy schedule.

Morrison knows Falkirk will have to be at the top of their game to take out Championship Ayr United this evening.

The Falkirk star admitted: “I wanted to beat the previous season’s goal target and thankfully I have managed to do that.

“But I have another couple of targets – to help us get out of League One and – now with this big quarter-final against Ayr – to get back to Hampden with Falkirk. That would be great.”

Falkirk will be in front of the television cameras for the second consecutive round

after putting an end to Darvel’s Scottish Cup dream.

Now they are playing a level of opposition that Falkirk are aspiring to get to under the Midas touch of John McGlynn.

Morrison said: “We are testing ourselves. If we want to play in that league next season then this is the level we will be facing.

“Everyone knows what is at stake and it is about grabbing that opportunity.”

Morrison has only had one previous Hampden appearance – he played in the 2018 League Cup semi-final as Hearts lost to Celtic. That same season Hearts also got to the Scottish Cup Final and also lost to the Hoops, although Morrison was forced to miss out through injury. “I was part of the squad that got to the Scottish Cup Final but I was injured,” he explained. “It was a good experience but I was gutted not to be involved.” “So I would love to get past Ayr and to book Falkirk’s place in the semis.” Morrison has still got another year left on his Falkirk contract, but he has already attracted interest from higher league opposition in the last transfer window. But he insisted: “It is good for the confidence but you can’t let it distract you. I just have to focus on doing well and helping the team to be as successful as we can.”
