Drey: I warned pal Sam I’d score

-

DREY WRIGHT texted old Colchester pal Sam Walker days in advance to tell him he was going to destroy his clean sheet.

And the St Johnstone star was also delighted to smash a stunning strike after getting a half-time message of his own from boss Callum Davidson.

Wright’s spectacular second-half special offered additional satisfaction.

Not only was it his sixth of the campaign but it followed up on a promise he made to Killie’s No.1.

Wright said: “Sam is a friend of mine. I played with him for a number of years.

“I gave him a text earlier in the week that I’d probably score against him and it’s come true, so it’ll be an interesting text back, I imagine.

“The space opened up and I caught it quite sweetly. Luckily it flew in.”

Wright had also bagged

a scorcher against Celtic last month but, asked which was best, he said: “Against my mate or Joe Hart?

“Sammy had no chance with that but I think Joe could have probably done better. We got a point, so I’ll go for this one.”

The point looked unlikely after an appaling first-half showing that left Davidson livid. He made a sub before the break and got his point across at the interval.

Wright said: “That was one of the worst halves I’ve been involved in. We all knew it.

“Not one of us could walk into the dressing room at half time thinking they’ve done anywhere near good enough.

“You can kind of get that reset button and go out again and it’s a fresh half.

“I’ve never really been one to kind of worry about myself getting the numbers.

“It’s more about picking up points for the team so I’m happy to contribute.”
