Lewis: We were close to cashing in Lucky 15

- Michael Gannon

LEWIS MILLER reckons Lee Johnson’s Lucky 15 masterplan nearly paid off.

The Hibs boss came up with an ingenious training drill to try to cope with Celtic and it almost came up trumps.

Johnston got his men practising against 15 attackers at Tranent and came close to pulling off a shock even after going down to 10 men.

Hibs – who harshly lost Eli Youan – held the Hoops for more than 80 minutes before Ange Postecoglou’s side found a way through.

But Miller said: “Tactically, the manager is very switched on and he knew what we were going to do. In training we did play 15 versus 10.

“It was to get into our heads to play more zonal and be aware of the spacing instead of staying on the man. It worked on Saturday. Look, it felt quite good to be fair. We

were well prepared. That drill helped us out. You saw that on the pitch.”

Miller will take heart from pushing the champions hard. He added: “We held off Celtic for a long time, especially with a player less. The scoreline was kind of rough because I thought we were better than that.

“When we went down to 10 men all we wanted to do was try to hold them off. They were knocking on the door for a while and eventually they got there with the set-piece.

“We played very well. It is a positive sign that we are going in the right direction. Hopefully we can go on to the next game, get three points and work our way to Europe.”

Johnson was fuming at the red card and other controversial calls but Miller said: “At the end of the day, it is the ref’s decision. He sees what he sees. We have got VAR to assist it as well so we can’t complain about it.”
