WE MUST PUSH OLLIE THE WAY TO A BIG FINISH

-

OLLIE SMITH says he is ready to jump straight back into action with Glasgow after a successful Six Nations debut.

And the full-back is expecting a gruelling run to the end of the season at club level after coach Franco Smith told his Warriors players the target is to reach the finals of both the URC and the European Challenge Cup.

Warriors currently sit fourth in the URC and if they hold on to that position during the final three games of the regular season they will secure a home draw in the play-offs.

But they face a huge challenge on Saturday when they take on fifthplaced Munster at Thomond Park. They then host the Dragons in the last 16 of the Challenge Cup the following weekend.

Smith said: “Franco talks about having 10 games left which would mean we would get to both finals of both competitions.

“We certainly believe we can achieve that and it’s now in our hands to do it.

“We’ve got a good run of home games, certainly in Europe and then in the play-offs as well if we make the top four the URC, so hopefully we can get some good results.”

On a personal level, Smith knows a strong end to the season will push his case for a more central role with Scotland.

After playing in the win over Italy he said: “I enjoyed being in the Scotland squad during the Six Nations but it was frustrating because you want to play as much as possible.

“I know it’s going to be difficult because I’m up against Stuart Hogg for that No.15 jersey but I’m just going to get stuck back into playing at Glasgow for the next couple of weeks and see where I am come summertime.

“World Cups are always a goal – that’s what you dream about as a kid.”
